Linux for Router Configuration |

About LRCLinux for Router Configuration (LRC) is a small Linux distribution which can be stuffed into floppies. It was first created intended to do some CCNA Hands-on Labs via Linux other than MS Windows, but has nothing to do with Cisco Inc. In fact, LRC may help us complete many other jobs, such as system recovery, network troubleshooting, and installation of other Linux distributions etc. Since the first release, LRC have been changed to use uClibc Library, which is smaller than GNU C Library and easier to use. LRC is mainly distributed in two floppies, the first of which is a boot disk while the second one contains additional packages such as modules, useful tools, etc. You can choose right packages for your task. All things stay in tmpfs after LRC booting. That means all stuff you are dealing with is in memory. Before system invoke the real init, we change the root to tmpfs, and then free the ramdisk. That should help us get rid of the size limitation in ramdisk. GNU GRUB Boot Loader is used. It is convenient for us to change the kernel or initrd, and should be useful especially when doing some recovery. |
